Alchemist
So far in the book I have been noticing some trends with Santiago. It almost seems like he is a cheesy character from a movie or something where the way he carries himself is awkwardly funny. He really lacks any kind of street smarts and I'm sure throughout the book we will see Santiago grow more wise.

Burton's Characters
I think that the main difference between the characters from the book vs Burton's movie is the overall time from when each other came out. The characters in the movie seem to have a more modern form of humor to them, where as the characters from the book seem a little more old-fashioned. Also with Burton, you get a much more "extreme" characters than the book. The mad hatter is portrayed with tons of make up on his face and creepy orange eyes; the rabbit is very high strung almost to the point of losing it. The characters are definitely similar, but the ones from the movie have just been updated you could say.

Reading Response #2
I'm late, I'm late, I'm late! That's all that is running through the rabbits head as he tries to get a stubborn girl to come along with him. He is surprised to see that the girl has followed him down the hole. As he reaches the bottom, he notices the little girl talking to herself along with some other odd behaviors as she falls. Her actions are quickly overshadowed by the restless mind of the rabbit though, who seems far too worried to really pay attention to just one thing for longer than a moment.

Favorite Book
I cannot say that I have just one favorite book, but the entire collection of the Lord of the Rings books would have to be my favorite books. I know this might sound a little nerdy or something like that, but before the movies even came out I started reading these books. The way Tolkien creates a whole new world filled with new things to try and grasp made it easy to pick one of his books up and just keep reading. I started reading the books my freshman year of high school and just like any Harry Potter fan would say, I enjoyed the books much better than the movies. For someone like me to say they liked the book better than the movie, it says something about the quality of the story.
